The main objectives of the\u00a0African Union\u00a0were to rid the continent of the remaining vestiges of colonization and apartheid; to promote unity and solidarity among African States; to coordinate and intensify cooperation for development; to safeguard the sovereignty and territorialintegrity of Member States and to promote international cooperation within the framework of the United Nations.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\u00a0<\/td>\nThe\u00a0Southern African Development Community (SADC)\u00a0is an inter-governmental organization headquartered in Gaborone, Botswana. Its goal is to further socio-economic cooperation and integration as well as political and security cooperation among 15 southern African states. It complements the role of the African Union.
