Visas
A visa is a prescribed endorsement issued upon application on valid passport of a foreigner granting such a foreigner the authority to proceed to the republic to report for a prescribed examination to an immigration officer at the port of entry with a view to admission on a specified temporary residence, which at any time before admission may be withdrawn by the department.
Types of Visa
Duration and Purpose of Stay
On entry to the RSA the visa is deemed to be a visitor's permit. The validity of the period of the permit must be calculated from the date of entry. The period for which the permit will be valid will be set out under the heading 'conditions' on the visa label. Applicants must ensure that they apply for the correct visa/permit applied for in the Republic may be refused if the purpose of the original entry was not correctly stated.
