Important: Foreigners intending to visit South Africa are hereby informed that their passports must have at least one blank visa page for the purpose of endorsement. The blank page needed for endorsement purposes excludes pages in a passport reserved for observations and amendments.

Holders of United States and Canadian passports do not need visas to enter the Republic of South Africa for visits less than 90 days but will have to provide the following to the Immigration Officers on request:

  • A valid passport.
  • Yellow fever certificate if the applicant will be traveling, intends to travel or traveled from or through the yellow fever endemic area.
  • Statement or documentation confirming the purpose and duration of visit, preferably from the host organization in the Republic of South Africa.
  • Proof of sufficient financial means.
  • Proof of return ticket in case of visits of less than 12 months.

United States and Canadian passport holders visiting the Republic of South Africa for less than 90 days for any of the following reasons do not need visas:

  • To serve as medical electives.
  • To volunteer at a charitable organization.
  • To conduct a research.
