A valid passport in respect of the applicant.
Two (2) passport photos
Yellow fever certificate if the applicant will be traveling, intends to travel or traveled from or through the yellow fever endemic area.
In respect of minor dependent children accompanying the applicant or joining the applicant in the Republic, proof of such guardianship or custody will be needed. In the case of unaccompanied minor, consent from the guardian.
- Letter from host organization in South Africa confirming the visit, duration and also the duties of the academic concerned while in South Africa.
- Letter from institution the applicant is attached to – abroad, detailing the visit and also its purpose.

Canadian Deposit and Mailing Fee: Please call the South African High Commission in Canada at (613) 744-0330.*NB: Applicants visiting South Africa for a period of twelve (12) months and more will have to provide a police clearance certificate from the State Police concerned – in the case of the United States citizens, where they have lived for a period of 12 months or more. In case of applicants who have lived in other countries for a period of 12 months and more, a police clearance certificate will be needed from that country.
