Emergency Travel Certificates are issued to South Africans who have to travel back home urgently for reasons of death, sickness or any other emergency.  It is in a page form and may be issued with validity ranging from a month to a year. Applicants for emergency travel certificates must also apply for permanent passports. 

Requirements

Application forms plus supporting documentation must be submitted in duplicate (two copies). It has been noted that some applicants submit application forms in duplicate but supporting documents (determination of citizenship, divorce decrees, marriage certificates, etc.) are still being sent without copies. Please ensure that you submit two sets of the application:  a) the original application forms and supporting documents, and b) a copy of the complete set.

• BI 73 form;

• Any proof of the urgency of the trip;

• Proof of South African Citizenship.  A notarized copy of South African Identity Book, old Passport, South African Drivers License.

• Two (2) passport size (2" x 2") photos.
