Sponsored Persons Category This category refers to persons who are destitute, aged or infirm blood member of the family who will be sponsored by a person who is permanently and lawfully residing in South Africa provided that such a person is financially able to support the prospective immigrant. Applicant must be physically unable to fend for him/herself to such an extent that it is imperative for his/her survival that a family member takes him/her in as a dependent. The person to be sponsored must not have any dependents which will need to sponsored as well. Please note that sponsorship is applicable to those who need to be sponsored and cared for by the sponsor as provided in the Act. Persons applying on this category may apply in South Africa if in possession of a valid permit in terms of Section 26(1) of the Act. Before an immigration application under this category will be accepted, a preliminary investigation takes place to ascertain whether the relative person is qualified to be sponsored. The fee of US$1,790.00 is not payable on this category. Important All documents must be submitted in originals or notarized copies. Documents which are not in English must be accompanied by certified translations into English. All fees must be paid in certified bank check payable to the South African Consulate General, New York. A personal/telephonic interview is required towards the final stage of the application provided that all requirements have been duly complied with by the applicant. Requirements
