Deportees
en route to their country of origin via South African ports of entry
must be in possession of transit visas. Applications for such visas
must be made at the South African Consulate in New York.
The
transit visas will only be issued once the departure on an onward
flight has been confirmed for which tickets were booked.
Departure
must be within one day of arrival in the transit area.
The
deportee must be escorted from the time of arrival at the South
African port until their departure.
When
groups are to be deported, only two persons or one family unit may
be issued with transit visas at a time.Subsequent transit visas must be delayed until the preceding
group has finally departed from the transit area.
